Overview
The O Brien Institute, Dublin Fire Brigades
training centre is the largest fire training facility in Ireland.
The main building house's the lecture / classrooms. A large
3 storey breathing apparatus complex has numerous rooms, cages,
pipes etc. to simulate many different fire scenarios.
A purpose built steel ship module allows for realistic
ship firefighting training.
The large parade ground to the rear allows drills
to be carried out using the 5 storey towers. Road traffic accidents
can be simulated on the parade ground or on a special area where
extrication techniques can be taught in safety.
Hot fire training is carried out in steel containers
simulating flashover and backdraught conditions.
Since Dublin Fire Brigade
also operates an emergency ambulance service (nearly half the
trained EMT-Bs in Ireland) medical training plays a major part
in the centre.
Courses in both fire and ambulance disciplines are
taught and available not only to Dublin Fire Brigade staff but
to outside organizations and individuals.
